Hello, my name is Zhenyu Gu, I'm from China and I'm 19 years old. I am a freshman student at UCDavis and I am very happy to meet you all.
The most important learning outcomes in my last writing class (UWP 022 from UCDavis) were 1. learned how to cite. 2. learned how to write an open letter in a FORMAL format
A point in my past writing experience that I was very bad at was grammar. I would always make mistakes in very simple places like forgetting to change tenses, forgetting to add S at the end of words, etc. What started to make me pay attention to this point was when I took the TOEFL, one time my writing score was very low, I went to ask my teacher why, he said there are a lot of incorrect use of grammar in your writing process, and he suggested that I would rather use simple sentences than minimize grammatical mistakes in my writing process after that. I think it is because I am not familiar with all the rules so I forget them in the process of using them.
I am better at describing an event. When I was in UWP022, my professors and classmates have complimented me on my vivid language when writing narritive and my ability to make vivid pictures and images.
When I finished doing the Grammar 50 questions for the week on connect, surprisingly my grammar improved a lot compared to before, I think this is the result of my practicing in the last writing class, but I still have a lot of room for improvement and I need to keep working hard. I did well in the punctuation one.
